Newy: “Kangaroo Road Death Renews Calls to Protect Link Road Forest Bushland from Development”

Recent reporting by newy.com.au has highlighted renewed concern about the impact of ongoing development on wildlife habitat in Newcastle’s western bushland corridor.

The article followed the death of a kangaroo struck by a vehicle near Blue Gum Hills Regional Park on Minmi Road, prompting City of Newcastle councillor Elizabeth Adamczyk to warn about increasing risks to native wildlife as urban development expands into bushland areas.

This coverage highlighted the loss of habitat and the growing pressure being placed on wildlife corridors around Fletcher, Minmi and Wallsend.

Councillor Adamczyk also reiterated council’s support for the Save Link Road Forest campaign and opposition to further large-scale bushland development linked to the proposed Eden Estates rezoning.

The proposed development would affect hundreds of hectares of connected habitat across Wallsend and Glendale, an which is environmentally significant for threatened species and wildlife movement.

For Link Road Forest supporters, incidents like this reinforce concerns about the long-term consequences of clearing and fragmenting bushland across Newcastle’s western corridor.
