On the 14th of August 2026 our epetition to the Legislative Council (Upper House) of NSW Parliament for permanent protection of the Link Road Forest, closed after 3 months with 10,456 signatures.

This result is a clear indication of the growing level of local concern that this forest is saved, and we urge local State MP’s and the NSW Planning and Environment Ministers to take heed and listen to the voice of the community.

We will continue to engage directly with our community so they are informed and we are very confident as more and more become aware of the rezoning proposal (https://www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au/ppr/pre-exhibition/eden-estates-wallsend) currently being drafted under the State Significant Rezoning Policy (https://www.planning.nsw.gov.au/the-planning-system/state-significant-rezoning-policy) that the community support for this campaign will continue to grow.

This epetition will be tabled in the Legislative Council at 12.30pm on Tuesday 15 September 2026, and following this the relevant minister is required to provide a written response within 35 calendar days which we will publish here on our website in full.

We want to thank everyone who took action and signed the epetition and in particular those who helped get the message out to inform others, as that is an important ongoing goal of the campaign to inform and motivate the community to take meaningful action which is what will ensure this campaign is successful.

This epetition result is an important milestone for the campaign which continues to build momentum. Further action underway includes a paper petition for the Legislative Assembly (Lower House) of the NSW Parliament where if it reaches 10,000 signatures, will trigger mandatory floor debate, in addition to a mandatory Ministerial response required for 500+ signatures.
