Help us reach 10,000 paper petition signatures

Together, we reached 10,456 signatures on our e-petition to the NSW Legislative Council—the Upper House of NSW Parliament.

That was a fantastic result and a powerful demonstration of how many people want to see Link Road Forest permanently protected.

Now we need to do it again.

Our paper petition to the NSW Legislative Assembly—the Lower House—has already collected more than 6,000 signatures. We need to reach 10,000 signatures by 15 October 2026.

If we reach 10,000, the petition will be debated in the Lower House, putting the future of Link Road Forest formally before NSW MPs.

The pressure is on, but we are going well. With another big community push, we can get this over the line.

The paper petition is our priority now

The e-petition and paper petition are separate petitions addressed to different Houses of NSW Parliament.

If you signed the e-petition, thank you—but your signature does not carry across to the paper petition. Please sign the paper petition as well.

There are two main ways you can help.

Sign at Newcastle City Farmers Market

Come and see us at the Save Link Road Forest stall at Newcastle City Farmers Market in Broadmeadow on Sunday mornings.

Charmian Eckersley is collecting the completed petition sheets and keeping the overall tally. You can visit the stall to:

  • Sign the paper petition
  • Collect blank petition sheets
  • Return completed sheets
  • Find out more about the campaign

Print a petition and collect signatures

Even better, you can download and print a copy of the petition and collect signatures from your family, friends, neighbours, workmates and community.

One person taking the time to fill a sheet can make a real difference.

Download and print the paper petition

Because this is an official parliamentary paper petition, every person signing must write their name and address and provide their own original handwritten signature. Please do not alter the wording of the petition.

Return your completed petition sheets

Bring your completed original petition sheets to Charmian at the Save Link Road Forest stall at Newcastle City Farmers Market in Broadmeadow on any Sunday before the deadline.

Charmian will add the signatures to the campaign’s central tally, and we will periodically update the total on this page.

Please return your sheets as early as possible so we can make sure every signature is counted before 15 October.

Our Upper House e-petition

Our e-petition calling for the permanent protection of Link Road Forest closed on 14 August 2026 after three months, with 10,456 signatures.

The petition will be presented in the Legislative Council on 15 September. The relevant Minister will then be required to provide a written response within 35 calendar days.

This was an important milestone and showed the strength of community support for protecting the forest. Now we need to carry that momentum into the Lower House.

Already signed? You can still help

If you have already signed the paper petition, the most helpful thing you can do now is print a copy and collect signatures from other people.

You can also share this page with your friends, family and community groups and encourage them to get involved.

More than 6,000 people have already added their names. Now we need everyone who cares about Link Road Forest to help us reach 10,000 by 15 October.

Together, we can bring the future of Link Road Forest to a debate in the Lower House and strengthen the call for this precious forest to be permanently protected for wildlife, the community and future generations.
