NBN: “Link Road Forest Campaign launches e-petition”

NBN News has covered the launch of our new parliamentary e-petition calling on the NSW Government to protect Link Road Forest from the proposed Eden Estates rezoning.

We held a community cycling event attended by Greens MLC Sue Higginson who is joining with us to urge NSW Environment Minister Penny Sharpe to support long-term protection of the forest rather than allowing it to be opened for urban development.

During the interview, Sue Higginson questioned whether the site was an appropriate location for housing, pointing to broader concerns about planning, infrastructure and the loss of important environmental values.

The report also highlighted the ecological significance of Link Road Forest. Covering almost 600 hectares, the forest provides habitat for at least 17 threatened species and contains important koala habitat within one of the Lower Hunter's remaining wildlife corridors.

Ian McKenzie told NBN that community support for protecting the forest has been strong, with growing calls for the area to be secured for conservation and considered for inclusion in the national park system.

Our parliamentary e-petition has now been launched and we must reach 20,000 signatures before it can be formally debated in the NSW Legislative Council.

Please sign the petition here now. Every signature counts!
