Hunter Workers backs campaign to save Link Road Forest

The campaign to protect Link Road Forest has received a significant show of support from Hunter Workers, the region’s peak union body.

The Newcastle Herald has covered Hunter Workers’ endorsement of the campaign, with Secretary Leigh Shears saying the Hunter should not be forced into a “false choice” between housing, jobs and protecting the natural environment.

Hunter Workers has recognised the environmental significance of Link Road Forest while making clear that supporting its protection is not about opposing housing or construction jobs. Instead, the organisation is calling for better planning, including genuinely considering cleared, degraded and infill alternatives before high-value forest is lost.

The endorsement adds another important community voice to the growing call for Link Road Forest to be protected for future generations.
